Petals of Perpetuity
The sunflower holds significant historical meaning for all Kansans, symbolizing the spirit of the frontier era, meandering trails, and vast prairies. It embodies the vitality and pride of our past and present while representing the promise of a bright future. This vibrant flower has earned Kansas the title "The Sunflower State."
In 1903, Kansas officially adopted the sunflower as its state flower, celebrating the wild native variety known for its bright, sun-loving nature. This iconic helianthus serves as a steadfast emblem of the state's expansive landscapes, reflecting a nurturing history, a proud present, and a hopeful tomorrow.
Coffeyville was home to a number of brick plants in the late 1890s and early 1900s.
